The endless blog...
The blog is easily the most thorough and detailed record of this entire trip. With the death of one of our laptops it has fallen behind a bit (a lot), but it isn't over yet!
Plans are being made to catch it up, with over several hundred unplbushied blogs just waiting behind the scenes already.
All previous posts can be found here and if your favourite way to follow something in this day and age is by reading, then we've got you covered!

An alcoholic tour of the Finger Lakes
We had a relatively peaceful night in our car park and got up ready to see some waterfalls! The first one was within walking distance of the van, so we walked over to check it out. It appears that they haven't had much rain recently so it wasn't particularly exciting... Hoping that Watkins Glen would be a little more interesting we did the short drive down the road. After paying a pricey $8 for the carpark, we walked up to the start of the 1.5 miles hike up the gorge. The

Breakdown #1
Awaking in the morning to a large truck dumping rubble just up the road, we packed up and headed down to the restaurant to say goodbye to Craig and Scott. Our next destination was Cherry Springs State Park, renowned for it's dark sky status. We arrived around lunchtime and had a wander around. We went for a brief walk in the woods and checked out the campsite. I am still amazed by the price of campsites here. This one was around $27 a night, and offered a toilet and drinking

Wildlife sightings and drinking with ex-cons
Leaving Sherry and Jack's in the morning we were in a pretty good mood after having such a nice evening the night before. The weather however wasn't quite as good, so we decided to head for Penn's Cave on our winding journey northwards. I did question whether we should really be spending money on another cave tour, as we had just done one, but this one was one a boat! We were greeted in the car park by this little guy. After buying our tickets we headed down some stairs t

Making friends near the Graffiti Highway
We awoke to yet more car aimlessly driving around us through the car park. The weather wasn’t particularly brilliant but we decided to do a short local trail. Unfortunately about half an hour in it started raining quite hard which it continued to do for a lot of the walk. We didn’t quite as wet as we were walking through forests but, the walk was also fairly non-descript, I didn’t even take any pictures. As it was a bit rubbish, this was perfect cave weather and we headed off

‘Boobies’ and the Amish
From our surprisingly peaceful night in the Walmart carpark, we enjoyed a weird McDonalds breakfast on a bench by the river. This consisted of an American 'biscuit' which is a scone, a slightly grey meat burgery thing which Lee ate, some rubbery scrambled eggs and 3 sweet pancakes which I personally find a rather weird combination. From here we had a planned list of things we wanted to see on our route north to Niagra Falls. We decided to go to Mount Moriah cemetery first

Getting back on the road again with our stroppy van
The morning brought the sun and we spent around 3 hours sorting and repacking all our things. We then headed out of New York for the first time, knowing we wouldn’t have to come back. My camera was being repaired in Philly and Lee hadn’t had his Rocky moment so we headed back out the same way. We stopped at Double Trouble State Park for the night and attempted to cook for the first time since we got here. Naturally, the Wallas (our diesel cooker) refused to turn on. After som

Should I really have quit my whole life for this??
Waking up on the morning of the third night in the Jeep, we had been quite lucky with our parking spots so far. Aside from a few people who arrived in the car park in their vans in the early hours of the morning we were undisturbed. After having camped in lots of England, France, Scotland and now the US, I firmly believe that these people exist worldwide. They seem to turn up in your quiet camping spot, in the middle of the night and park rather close to you in the deserted

The first week - a bit of a rocky start.
Normally, I write my blogs everyday while on holiday but this isn't going to happen over an entire year. So on more likely a weekly basis, I'll give you a recap of what we've been up to. We also have a new YouTube video channel which we hope to upload some blogs too. We flew out to JFK airport on the 28th of August, after a pretty bang on start on our airport baggage allowance. Initially the van was supposed to arrive on the 30th. As we have no experience with imports we

So it begins...
Well here we are. I'm writing this just a few days before we at set to fly to New York. According to a marine traffic website I've been obsessively reloading, the van has left the port!! Due to arrive in New York on the 1st of September, we have officially reached the point of no return. I know that a few people have wanted to follow this blog in particular so here is a very brief overview of the timescale to this point. Feb 2015 - we bought the van. It did not fit in the s
